New PCYC Yarrabah collaboration with ACCL/Aspire

GOOD NEWS STORY

Excited to highlight our expanding collaborations across South Cairns Region. Here is some information on the newest partnership with PCYC Yarrabah.

“I would like to thank you and Aspire for your support in funding this event. It was a huge success. the kids asked as if we can make it an annual event, with some even pushing for it to happen every school holidays. They are all still wearing their team singlets to PCYC regularly. And they do look fantastic.

We included a few rule adaptions to encourage female attendance and inclusion on the day. As typically, touch football is a male dominated sport here at PCYC. With many of the older boys playing hard and fast, which sees the girls miss out, or too shame to ask to join in.

We had approximately 40 participants and 15 of them were female. Each team needed to have a minimum of 1 girl on the field at all times, and a female try was worth 2 points. This worked fantastically. And we have now seen girls joining in when we play touch at PCYC in the evenings. Our best and fairest went to a young girl. And the winning team had the most female team members. We even had some little girls as part of our welcome dance and opening of the event”
